The Sensitisation process is about helping staff understand why dealing with inappropriate sexual behaviour (ISB) is important. We work to normalise all responses and to motivate why schools need a proactive response to ISB. We start with School Management Teams so that the leaders and decision makers in the school feel prepared.

SMT consultation

Here is what you can expect from the SMT consultation ahead of the Sensitisation workshop
with staff.

  • To schedule the consultation at times convenient for your team. (Either two 1 hour meetings, or one 2 hour meeting)
  • Not every member needs to be there, but it is important to have key decision makers and those committed to driving the process forward within the school.
  • This meeting will cover anything that your SMT needs to discuss relating to the topic of inappropriate sexual behaviour, please bring your questions or concerns
  • An opportunity for your team to brief us if there are any particularly sensitive areas/issues going into the Sensitisation Workshop.  Also, it is important that if any staff have personal reasons for not being able to deal with ISB at this time, that they have space in this workshop to express that.
  • We will talk through practicalities such as setting dates and times for workshops, venue and materials.
  • We will start a discussion around having a "champion" (or more) in your school of this safeguarding process - a person who can spearhead the response following the workshop, who other staff members can talk to and call on.
  • We will take you through what will be shared in the Staff Sensitisation workshop.

Staff Sensitisation Workshop

Here is what you can expect from the Staff Sensitisation Workshop:

  • Sharing definitions of ISB and the continuum of behaviours - exploring what is typical and what is not.
  • Normalising of personal responses to dealing with ISB
  • What the staff member's role is.
  • Dealing with questions/concerns

Follow up

We will write a brief feedback from the workshop on recommended next steps, what is emerging from staff member's responses in the workshop.
